(tylko po angielsku) The course is directed to students with an interest in natural environment and socio-economic conditions of Poland. English is a prerequisite for students participating in common seminars.

The lecture gives general information about natural environment of Poland (geology, relief, climate, hydrology, soils, vegetation, land use, natural landscape types, geographical regions, protected areas - national parks) and socio-economic situation of country (demography; urban and rural areas; labour market, agriculture, industry, trade and services; housing, consumption; political and cultural activity).

The topics of particular lecture will be:

Pełny opis: (tylko po angielsku)

The lectures (45 hours) will present general information about natural environment of Poland

1-2. Location of Poland on the background of the geological units of Europe. Features of Polish relief. Origin and development of relief. Contemporary geomorphological processes and their dynamics. Extreme events: the types, frequency, hazards (6h).

3-4. Hydrological structure of Poland. Water resources and water balance of Poland. Hydrological regime of the Polish river. Lakes, reservoirs and off-shore waters of Poland. (6h)

5-6. Seasonal features of climate. Regional differentiation of climate. Climate change and its consequences for ecosystems and society (6 h).

7-8. Soils, vegetation, natural landscape types, geographical regions, protected areas (national parks) (6h)

9. Political geography of Poland: the international location and position of Poland, its borders and borderlands since the birth of the Polish state up to present, the ethnic and religious diversity in Poland and in the territories that had functioned within the borders of Poland up to 1939, questions concerning the territorial integrity of Poland, the political language of public spaces in Poland, the electoral geography of Poland, the administrative division of the country (3h).
