ECTS credit allocation (and other scores): 6.00 Basic information on ECTS credits allocation principles:
  • the annual hourly workload of the student’s work required to achieve the expected learning outcomes for a given stage is 1500-1800h, corresponding to 60 ECTS;
  • the student’s weekly hourly workload is 45 h;
  • 1 ECTS point corresponds to 25-30 hours of student work needed to achieve the assumed learning outcomes;
  • weekly student workload necessary to achieve the assumed learning outcomes allows to obtain 1.5 ECTS;
  • work required to pass the course, which has been assigned 3 ECTS, constitutes 10% of the semester student load.

Short description:

Introduction to relational databases, SQL language and basic networking services for them.

Full description:

Introductory theory of relational databases, designing relational databases (normal forms, keys, consistency constraints), SQL query langugage, using and managing databases, network interfaces for architecture client-server, network types, network protocols.

Learning outcomes:

Knowledge:

- has basic knowledge about database, algorithms and computer tools used for processing biological information, e.g. for operations on nucleotide and

protein sequences

- has knowledge about networking technology, in particular basic communication protocols and security

Skills and competence:

- is able to submit queries to databases in SQL language

- knows how to build simple database applications, using at least on popular

database management system

Assessment methods and assessment criteria:

Final assessment has 3 components:

- part-time exam from SQL programming 25%

- laboratory assignment (,,application'') 35%

- written exam 40%

One should receive at least 60%.
