ECTS credit allocation (and other scores): 3.00 Basic information on ECTS credits allocation principles:
  • the annual hourly workload of the student’s work required to achieve the expected learning outcomes for a given stage is 1500-1800h, corresponding to 60 ECTS;
  • the student’s weekly hourly workload is 45 h;
  • 1 ECTS point corresponds to 25-30 hours of student work needed to achieve the assumed learning outcomes;
  • weekly student workload necessary to achieve the assumed learning outcomes allows to obtain 1.5 ECTS;
  • work required to pass the course, which has been assigned 3 ECTS, constitutes 10% of the semester student load.

Prerequisites (description):

The aim of the proseminar is to learn how to prepare and deliver public presentations. Classes are conducted in English, what is meant to prepare us for delivering lectures at international meetings and conferences.

Full description:

During each meeting, two students are giving presentations, which are commented and discussed. We are also watching and commenting

professional scientific presentations delivered in English by good public speakers.

Student's workload:

30h - attending the meetings - 1 ECTS

60h - preparation of the presentation and practice in its delivery - 2 ECTS

Total: 3 ECTS

Learning outcomes:

Having completed the course the student:

KNOWLEDGE

- knows how to prepare and deliver outstanding presentations.

- knows the techniques, which help to capture and hold attention of an audience.

ABILITIES

- is able to prepare and deliver high-quality oral presentations in English.

- understands the importance of non-verbal communication in face-to-face interactions.

SOCIAL AWARENESS

- is aware of all the elements involved in successful public speaking.

- is aware of his/her strengths and and knows how to use them during presentations.

Assessment methods and assessment criteria:

In order to obtain a course credit one needs to:

- give an oral presentation on a topic related to one’s Master Thesis or a field of study

- be present at most of the meetings

In particular, competencies at the B2+ level of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) are subject to assessment.
