Short description:

The Roman empire met on the Nile the vanishing civilization of Egypt of the pharaohs. By that time the Egyptian culture had changed under influence of the Greek world. The history of the Roman impact on Egypt and the results of that dramatic collision will be discussed in this series of lectures

Full description:

The Roman empire met on the Nile the vanishing civilization of Egypt of the pharaohs. By that time the Egyptian culture had changed under influence of the Greek world. Egypt under Ptolemaic rule entered the Hellenistic world. However, the traditional culture of Egypt survived and developed. The simultaneous phenomena of hellenization and Egyptization produced a strange mixture which was reflected by the multicultural life of Alexandria, the capital of the land on the Nile and a universal metropolis.

The history of the Roman impact on Egypt and the results of that dramatic collision will be discussed in this series of lectures. Some of the consequences of those remote events last

Zwiększenie sumy wiedzy o czasach późnego hellenizmu i cesarstwa rzymskiego.

Konkretne wiadomości i ogólne syntetyczne wnioski z zakresu historii politycznej, gospodarczej i historii kultury Egiptu i imperium rzymskiego. Wstęp do zdobywania dalszej szczegółowej wiedzy o epoce w ramach następujących dyscyplin: papirologia, archeologia Egiptu, historia starożytna.
