ECTS credit allocation (and other scores): 5.00 Basic information on ECTS credits allocation principles:
  • the annual hourly workload of the student’s work required to achieve the expected learning outcomes for a given stage is 1500-1800h, corresponding to 60 ECTS;
  • the student’s weekly hourly workload is 45 h;
  • 1 ECTS point corresponds to 25-30 hours of student work needed to achieve the assumed learning outcomes;
  • weekly student workload necessary to achieve the assumed learning outcomes allows to obtain 1.5 ECTS;
  • work required to pass the course, which has been assigned 3 ECTS, constitutes 10% of the semester student load.

The classes are designed to give students analytical competence to interpret source data in relation to cultural theories. They are also intended to draw attention to the cognitive possibilities and limitations associated with individual theories and the socio-cultural conditions to which they are subjected

Short description:

The course is complementary with the lecture. The classes are designed to familiarize the students with selected texts in the field of cultural theory. Students will attempt to apply the epistemological propositions presented in the discussed texts to the research problems undertaken in their own work.

Full description:

Drawing on a careful reading of the assigned texts, class participants will attempt to apply the theoretical propositions offered in the texts to the analysis of selected social practices they have observed (preferably relating them to empirical data obtained during their own ethnographic fieldwork).

Learning outcomes: (in Polish)

Studenci zdobywają wiedzę teoretyczną, dającą im umiejętność analizowania danych empirycznych zgromadzonych m.in. podczas etnograficznych badan terenowych. Wiedza ta podnosi ich kompetencje w zakresie pisania tekstów akademickich, w tym pracy magisterskiej.

Assessment methods and assessment criteria:

1) Summary score of up to 5 unannounced colloquia and participation in the quiz provided at the end of the class: 50%

2) Activity in class: 50%

Two unexcused absences per semester are allowed. Any further , this excused absence, requires oral credit of the material within two weeks from the date of leaving the class.
