ECTS credit allocation (and other scores): 2.00 Basic information on ECTS credits allocation principles:
  • the annual hourly workload of the student’s work required to achieve the expected learning outcomes for a given stage is 1500-1800h, corresponding to 60 ECTS;
  • the student’s weekly hourly workload is 45 h;
  • 1 ECTS point corresponds to 25-30 hours of student work needed to achieve the assumed learning outcomes;
  • weekly student workload necessary to achieve the assumed learning outcomes allows to obtain 1.5 ECTS;
  • work required to pass the course, which has been assigned 3 ECTS, constitutes 10% of the semester student load.

Short description:

French is a communication tool in over 50 countries around the world. However, French is not spoken in the same way everywhere, whether it is about countries (France, Canada, Cameroon, Algeria, Vanuatu or, for example, New Caledonia); other issues are hidden in local literature, local comics or local series. These classes are a kind of journey around the Francophone world, so that the student gets to know the multifaceted reality of this world and the extraordinary migration from Europe to all continents, which this "Parisian language" has made over the centuries.

Everything will take place in a pleasant atmosphere of conversation, because the main goal of the classes is to give students the opportunity to talk in French about topics that are important for these countries and the world.

Full description:

• A short introduction to the development of the French language and the reasons for its presence on all continents; • Review of the situation and specificity of language varieties in France itself (minority languages ​​and their relationships with the standard language;

• A journey through America: the situation and aspects of the French language in Canada (Acadia) and the United States (Cajun), in Haiti;

• A journey through the Overseas Territories (COM/ DOM-TOM /PTU): creoles, life and language;

• A journey through Africa: colonialism/post-colonialism/social issues today in the “African” media (TV5 monde, series, comics, films, QCM linguistic…)

 French language in the Maghreb countries,

 French languages ​​in sub-Saharan countries

Using Internet resources, we will discover what the inhabitants of these countries are talking about 50 years after gaining their independence; to this we will add a collection of lexis collected on the Internet and in scientific articles by French language specialists;

• The future of the French language in the new economic competition in the world, and especially in Africa;

Learning outcomes:

K_W01, knows the structure of language as a system, has basic knowledge of the place and importance of linguistics (general and applied) and literary studies within the system of sciences, and understands their subject specificity,

K_W02, knows basic terminology in linguistics (general and applied) and literary studies,

K_W03, has advanced knowledge of the stages of development of linguistics as a field of knowledge from a historical perspective, understands the complex nature of language and its complexity and historical variability,

K_W05, knows and understands the specificity of contemporary paradigms of linguistics (general and applied), has structured general knowledge of the theory and methodology of linguistics and literary studies,

K_W10, has an outline of the culture and literature of the languages ​​studied, understands the role of language in communication between people and cultures,

K_W11, knows and understands cultural differences as a significant factor in the formation of societies multiculturalism in the contemporary world, has a general understanding of the socio-economic and legal realities in areas related to the languages ​​studied,

K_W13, knows and understands the principles of professional ethics

K_U01, is able to critically analyze texts as cultural products, is able to search for, analyze, evaluate, and select authentic texts in two foreign languages ​​studied, and develop professional skills in applied linguistics and literary studies.

K_U04, is able to argue using the views of other authors and independently formulate conclusions, both orally and in writing, in Polish and two foreign languages ​​studied.

K_U08, has an advanced knowledge of the rules of correct Polish and applies them in practice.

K_U11, is able to independently acquire knowledge in the field of applied linguistics and literary studies, following the guidance of a supervisor; is able to assess the usefulness of learned methods, practices, and procedures for one's own professional activity.

K_K01 is ready to adequately identify and resolve interlingual communication dilemmas caused by the asymmetry of language systems and cultural differences, adhering to ethical behavior patterns and seeking expert advice.

K_K05 is ready to responsibly lead a group (as part of a team research or practical project – e.g., educational, multicultural, and multilingual), accepting responsibility for the results of its work.
