  • the annual hourly workload of the student’s work required to achieve the expected learning outcomes for a given stage is 1500-1800h, corresponding to 60 ECTS;

Prerequisites (description):

High level mastery of communicative and linguocultural competence in all fields of social and professional life in the general scope.

Short description:

The aim of the course is the acquisition by the student-philologist the Russian language skills in the field of economics and business defined for C2 level according to CEFR (C2.1 course). The program presents the fundamentals of foreign trade, the details of preparation and implementation of commercial transactions. The particular chapter is devoted to Russian business correspondence and documentation, principles for the drafting of official letters and execution of contracts.

Full description:

Classes are devoted to the student's mastery of specific knowledge of the mentioned below issues and forming the receptive and productive skills in business discourse.

Topics:

1. Features of official style of contemporary Russian (general characteristics, lexical, grammatical and pragmatic features, the main types of official texts)

2. Today's labor market and employment (the market situation, problems of employment, staffing, recruitment, CV and cover letter, preparing for job interview)

3. Business activities (presentation of the company, the types of companies and their structure, transactions, marketing and advertising)

4. Business correspondence and commercial documentation (official letter items, inquiries, offers, contracts, complaints)

Learning outcomes:

KNOWLEDGE

1. the student knows and understands the properties of official style of contemporary Russian: general characteristics, lexical, grammatical and pragmatic features, the main types of texts

2. the student has knowledge of the legal basis for entrepreneurship, functioning of the modern market, foreign trade, marketing, advertising and methods of sales promotion

SKILLS

1. the student is able to recognize and analyze in Russian the various texts on economic issues, including the content of commercial contracts as well as agreements regarding international economic cooperation

2. the student is able to present in Russian business activities, conduct commercial negotiations discussing the details of international transactions

3. the student is able to write in Russian commercial letters (inquiries, binding offers, complaints, reply to complaints), CV and cover letters

SOCIAL COMPETENCES

1. the student is ready to expand his/her knowledge in the field of business communication in today’s social life

2. the student is ready to accept the value of a specialized for specialist in Russian philology and is aware of the ethical dimension in contemporary business relations

Assessment methods and assessment criteria:

Assessment of the course:

- presence and active participation in classes,

- systematic preparation for the assigned material,

- preparing homeworks and control works on time,

- active participation in preparation for presentations, speeches, projects.

In order to obtain a credit the following criteria are taken into account:

- achieving the assumed learning outcomes covering all relevant aspects - 5,0 (very good grade)

- achieving the assumed learning outcomes covering all relevant aspects with a small number of errors or inaccuracies - 4,5 (good plus)

- achieving the assumed learning outcomes not taking into account some (less important) aspects - 4,0 (good grade)

- achieving the assumed learning outcomes, omitting some important aspects and with significant inaccuracies - 3,5 (satisfactory plus)

- achieving the assumed learning outcomes, omitting important aspects or with serious inaccuracies - 3,0 (satisfactory)

- no achievement of the assumed learning outcomes - 2,0 (unsatisfactory)

The components of assessment:

- continuous assessment (the current preparation for classes and activities) - 30%

- control tests during the semester - 35%

- presentations, speeches, projects – 35%

Criteria for the assessment of written statement:

a/ compliance of the statements with the topic,

b/ compliance of the statement with the required form,

c/ use of specialized vocabulary in accordance with the topic

d/ linguistic correctness.

Criteria for the assessment of oral statement:

a/ communicative efficiency (the student communicates very effectively and correctly, with fluency, uses efficient interaction strategies and rhetorical conventions)

b/ fluency and cohesion of speech, phonetic correctness

c/ correct usage of grammatical structures (full or almost full)

d/ proper and rich selection of vocabulary consistent with the topic

e/ stylistic suitability (appropriate usage of vocabulary and syntactic structures)

The final exam consists of written and oral parts:

- written part (test with tasks for translation and writting commercial letters + essay to choose from three given topics)

criteria:

knowledge of grammatical, specialized vocabulary and spelling structures:

test – 60% – 68% - 3 (satisfactory)

69% - 77% - 3+ (satisfactory plus)

78% - 86% - 4 (good)

87% - 95% - 4+ (good plus)

96% - 100% - 5 (very good)

essay/criteria:

a/ compliance with the topic,

b/ cohesion of the text

c/ lexical, grammatical and spelling correctness

- oral part (2 tasks: conversation with an examiner within the scope of business communication, presentation of the drawn issue)/criteria:

a/ communicative efficiency (the student communicates very effectively and correctly, with fluency, uses efficient interaction strategies and rhetorical conventions)

b/ fluency and cohesion of speech, phonetic correctness

c/ correct usage of grammatical structures (full or almost full)

d/ proper and rich selection of vocabulary consistent with the topic

e/ stylistic suitability (appropriate usage of vocabulary and syntactic structures)

The condition for passing the exam is passing its written and oral parts.

THE TOTAL EFFORT OF THE STUDENT - BALANCE OF ECTS POINTS

Student's workload during the classes requiring direct participation with the teacher: 96 hours. ECTS: 3 including:

- participation in the classes 90 hours.

- participation in the exam 4+2 hours.

Individual student's workload: 150 hours. ECTS: 5 including:

Individual study of course material/preparation for classes 60 hours.

Doing homework (speech, presentation, essay, etc.) 60 hours.

Preparation for control works 20 hours.

Preparation for passing the credit/exam 10 hours.

TOTAL

Student's workload during the classes requiring direct participation with the teacher and individual student's workload: 246 hours. ECTS: 8

The student has the right to 2 unexcused absences, each subsequent one requires justification. The lecturer decides on the recognition of absence.

Exceeding excused and unexcused absences by 50% of classes may be grounds to fail the course.

The conditions for passing the course on the resit exam are the same as on the ordinary of exam.
