Short description:

The subject is devoted to the presentation of issues related to the wider issues of correctional treatment and social reintegration. It includes two types of classes: lecture and seminar. The lecture will be presented the basic concepts of correctional treatment and social reintegration as well as selected issues necessary for a reasonable correctional work, including diagnostic and methodological elements. In the Seminar will be expanding presented the lecture topics and a common interpretation and consolidation of material, and gain practical work skills in a correctional work, in open and closed units, connected (among others) with the creation of Individual Rehabilitation Program

Full description:

The goal of the subject is to present issues related to the wider issues of correctional treatment and social reintegration. It includes two types of classes: lecture and seminar. The lecture will be presented the following issues:

• basic concepts of rehabilitation and social reintegration

• phases, principles, strategies of correctional education

• responsibility of juvenile before the family court and by virtue of the penal code

• institutions of the correctional education,

• prison system,

• selected aspects of methodology and diagnostic of the correctional education

• principles for the creation and revision of the Individual Rehabilitation Program.

In the first part will be presented the basic concepts of rehabilitation, such as socialization, dissocializing and correctional education. Next will be presented principles and strategies for correctional treatment, as well as selected contemporary approaches to it. Will be emphasized the interdisciplinary nature of social rehabilitation. Additionally the goal of the course will be to present the system of correctional treatment in open and closed units. Presentation of the diagnostic aspects (types of diagnosis and the correct course of the diagnostic process) and methodological aspects (methods of correctional education and their actual use) will serve to shape the ability to create of the Individualized Rehabilitation Program.

The Seminar is expanding presented at the lecture topics, a common interpretation and practical consolidation of the materials, and also gain practical skills in the correctional work in open and closed correctional units.

The classes will focus on the following topics:

• the activity of the State in the social reintegration (National Strategic Framework, the National Social Support Program)

• justice and correctional institutions,

• models of prison institutions (deprivations, cumulative),

• the negative effects of prison isolation,

• subculture in correctional institutions (the concept, origin and development, etiology, in the light of selected theoretical models, functions),

• increase knowledge on the methodology and diagnostic of the correctional pedagogy,

• principles of the creation, content and validation of the Individual Rehabilitation Program.

Accented will be understand the system of social rehabilitation that meets the requirements of the modern world and the methodology of correctional education

It will also be shaped by the ability to properly interpret the laws governing the conduct with Juveniles, especially in the creation and revision of the Individual Rehabilitation Program.

Having finished the process of learning, based on accumulated knowledge, a student:

• defines basic concepts of correctional treatment and social rehabilitation

• describes goals and organization of Justice and institutions of correctional education

• describes criteria of corrected Individual Rehabilitation Program from methodological and diagnostic point of view

Skills

Having finished the process of learning, a student has the following skills:

• correctly assesses the activities of closed institutions with the goals of correctional education

• interprets different legal solutions from the point of view of their correctional usefulness

• prepares Individual Rehabilitation Programs adequate to the goals of social rehabilitation, pupil’s needs and to implementation

• follows the ethical rules of correctional stuff

• verifies activities of correctional closed units depending on the changing individual and social needs
