Skrócony opis:

The lecture will present a systematic introduction to metaphysics and ontology. It is intended for everyone interested. The history of the subject will be touched on (but only touched on). The method of the lecture is phenomenological – mostly in a logico-lingustic way – and analytic. The approach to metaphysics is without preformed reductive intent. It will juxtapose reductive and nonreductive positions.

Pełny opis:

60 hours in six weeks,10 hours per week.

First week (March 3-7): (1) What is metaphysics? (2) What are the methods of metaphysics? (3) Methodological principles. (4) General metaphysics: (i) the theory of ontological categories: presentation of a system of categories, presentation of each category in the system (individual, property, state of affairs etc.).

Second week (March 10-14): remainder of the lecture on categories; (ii) the theory of ontological transcendentals: presentation of the several transcendentals, in particular, of existence.

Third week (March 17-21): (iii) the theory of ontological relations: identity, exemplification, part-whole etc.

Fourth week (March 24-28): (5) Special metaphysics: (i) human persons.

Fifth week (March 31 - April 4): (ii) the world(s); (iii) God.

Sixth week (April 7 – April 11): (6) Metaphysical systems, naturalistic and non-naturalistic.

Literatura:

There is no required reading. My books Modelling Metaphysics (2010), The Theory of Ontic Modalities (2006), Einführung in die Ontologie (2004), The Two Sides of Being (2004), Ereignis und Substanz (1997), Axiomatic Formal Ontology (1997) may prove helpful for some matters. Literature by other authors will be indicated in the course of the lecture.

Efekty kształcenia:

Having followed the course diligently, students should be familiar with metaphysical concepts, problems, and positions. They should be able to speak competently about these matters.

Metody i kryteria oceniania:

oral examination (10 or 20 minutes).
