  • the annual hourly workload of the student’s work required to achieve the expected learning outcomes for a given stage is 1500-1800h, corresponding to 60 ECTS;
  • the student’s weekly hourly workload is 45 h;
  • 1 ECTS point corresponds to 25-30 hours of student work needed to achieve the assumed learning outcomes;
  • weekly student workload necessary to achieve the assumed learning outcomes allows to obtain 1.5 ECTS;

Prerequisites (description):

Introduction to law, theory of finance, macroeconomics, international law

Short description:

The aim of the course is to present and discuss the basic principles of the international financial markets operation and their impact on various areas of an open economy.

The focus will be on analysing the problems of financial markets development and integration and their influence on the balance of payments in international trade, exchange rates and the foreign exchange market, money relationships, interest rates, issues of monetary and fiscal policies in an open economy.

Full description:

The objective is also to present to students the way in which transformation, integration and globalization of the world economy have progressed in recent decades.

In addition, the processes of capital flows on international markets will be assessed, namely their primary forms: direct investment, portfolio investment and bank capital.

Particular attention will be paid to the integration of financial markets in the EU, sources and consequences of the financial crisis that started in the global financial system in 2007 and the assessment of the post-crisis form of the international monetary and financial system.

Furthermore:

• Institutions, markets and instruments making up the financial system will be discussed.

• The relationship between the financial market and the commodity market will be presented.

• The methods of financing economic activity and opportunities for organizations to exploit the potential of the international market will be shown.

• The liberalization process driven by progressive regional economic integration that makes the national financial market a part of the regional and global financial market with all its positive and negative effects will be characterized.

Learning outcomes:

Knowledge acquainted during the course should allow students:

– independently analyse and indicate logical dependencies and relationships between: national economy-financial market / national economy-public finance-international financial market / economic policy of the state-international financial market / organization on the national market and the international financial market,

– recognize the architecture of the national and international financial markets as regards their operators, instruments and role,

– explain definitions of the financial market components and instruments,

- assess the role of the international financial market and its impact on the funding of organizations and financial needs of the national economy, and know/identify logical consequences of these relationships.

Assessment methods and assessment criteria:

Written exam evaluating causal thinking skills, critical analysis of economic and financial phenomena.
