Skrócony opis: |
The course focuses on the relationship between the notions of sustainable city and smart city. The emphasis is put on the critical analysis of the smart city concept as an extension of sustainable urban development, but also as a buzz-word overused by public authorities, media and the TNCs. |
Pełny opis: |
The course attempts to present the complexity of the notion of smart city. Firstly, it is being presented as the extension of the concept of sustainable urban development with the substantial usage of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT). Within the smart city the ICT are being treated then exclusively as a tool of increasing efficiency of the urban management. However, the technological and organisational side of contemporary urban development might also be deconstructed as a non-neutral tool of accumulation of capital and power. Within this perspective smart city appears to be just another buzz-word overused by public authorities, media and the Transnational Corporations (TNCs) losing the underlaying meaning of the concept. The critical approach allows for deepening the understanding of the contemporary evolution of the urban management agenda. The course will consist of theoretical background and number of case studies presented by the students. |
