Pełny opis:

Classes are offered as part of the Integrated Action Program for the Development of the University of Warsaw, co-financed from the European Social Fund under POWER 3.5. The rules for the use of general university courses for PhD students within the ZIP framework (UW PhD Students' Regulations) are available at: www.zip.uw.edu.pl.

The course is divided into five modules:

MODULE ONE – Get along in the academic environment

At the onset of the course, students will be made aware of the academic linguistic etiquette (stated or implied) they should observe.

Different learning strategies will also be revised/introduced to allow students to make the most of their individual as well as group learning.

MODULE TWO – Get your message across effectively

In this module, students will learn the basics of successful presentations: how to organise the material, how to make it interesting, clear and visually pleasing, as well as how to deliver a presentation. In subsequent synchronous online meetings they will have a chance to deliver their own presentations.

MODULE THREE – Focus on academic writing

In this module, students will enhance their academic writing skills, with special focus on how to organise their material and how to comply with the relevant style/register requirements.

On the Moodle platform, students will have a chance to present samples of their written work for feedback.

MODULE FOUR – Say more!

This module will put emphasis on developing vocabulary, including academic vocabulary. Students will activate various learning strategies and ways of recording the vocabulary they wish to learn.

MODULE FIVE – Develop your reading and listening skills

The course will focus on developing the four skills as well as vocabulary, with the use of multimedia input (a range of short films/TV series, vlogs, talks, authentic texts etc.). During synchronous online meetings, students will get acquainted with a given material, work with the new vocabulary and discuss ideas in small groups.
