The course regards methods of psychological and social research online,

with special attention to non-reactive data collection tools and

techniques. It’s goal is to prepare students to use online methods in their

own research projects, and well as to enable critical evaluation of online

studies.

There will be obligatory readings to prepare for classes,while during

classes we will mostly engage in practical activities and hands-on tools

training.

The course regards methods of psychological and social research online,

with special attention to non-reactive data collection tools and

techniques. It’s goal is to prepare students to use online methods in their

own research projects, and well as to enable critical evaluation of online

studies.

The course will cover the following issues:

1. Foundations of online methods:

• Sampling in online research

• Participants’ motivation & response rate

• Research ethics

2. Reactive methods in Internet-based research:

• Online experiments & internet labs

• Online surveys & questionnaires

• Psychological testing and assessment online

3. Non-reactive data collection and tools

• Non-reactive data collection: principles and problems

• Website traffic and popularity; tools: Google Analytics, Similar Web,

Alexa, Pl@Net PBI

• Marketing research online ; tools: Google Trends, social media

listening, social media analytics; e-commerce tools.

• Useful databases and repositories: Eurostat, GUS, Consumer

Barometer,

• Big data, data mining

4. Evaluation & feedback

Students

- Will learn the basics of internet research methods

- Will develop skills with a range of tools and repositories useful in

online research

- Will be prepared to use various methods of reactive and nonreactive

internet data collection in their own scientific and

applied studies

Metody i kryteria oceniania: (tylko po angielsku)

Assessment

40% intro tests based on readings

60% class participation & activities: students gather points for every

activities and the final grade is assigned at the end.

4 hrs absences allowed
