Skrócony opis:

This practical 6-day seminar with elements of workshop will hold participants through the process of discovering, defining, solving and developing solutions centred on end-users, integrating the social, cultural, environmental and economic constraints imposed by key stakeholders.

During the course, basic principles of design thinking methodology will be gradually introduced, including recent interpretations of “double diamond” framework; its relation to agile framework (scrum); relevancy of “design mindset” and soft skills in designer’s praxis; challenges and specificity of wicked problems; nature of creative blocks and cognitive biases interfering with “co-creative” approach on consecutive stages of design process.

Participants will go through divergent phases of understanding, research and empathizing to converge at relevant points of view, before iterating ideas and inventing ways of developing and prototyping results with real-life users.

• INTRO: what is bad design? Key paradigms of good design

• What are limitations and misinterpretations of design thinking?

• GROUPWORKING: What is design mindset? How it translates into practise?

• HOMEWORK: elaboration of case studies

DAY 2 (9.XI)

• RETROSPECTIVE: How do we think designerly? What is the promise of design thinking?

• What is problem finding? Nature of wicked problems & double diamond framework

• GROUPWORKING: tame & complex vs wicked problems

• What blocks our creativity? Cognitive biases

• GROUPWORKING: Why do we jump to conclusions? Case studies

• HOMEWORK: improvement of case studies

DAY 3 (16.XI)

• RETROSPECTIVE: Why to kill the brief? What to be aware of?

• What are personas and service journeys? How we define design problems? Introduction

• GROUPWORKING: stakeholders mapping

• PRACTICE: information mapping

• PRACTICE: role playing and empathy mapping

• HOMEWORK: elaboration of personas and journeys

DAY 4 (30.XI)

• RETROSPECTIVE: How to define design problems?

• PRACTICE: presentation & evaluation of personas and journeys

• HOMEWORK: improvement of personas and journeys

DAY 5 (7.XII)

• RETROSPECTIVE: How design thinking relates to agile?

• How do we create solutions? Introduction to ideation

• PRACTICE: How might we? Braindumping, day in a future

• GROUPWORKING: sketchstorming, brainwriting

• HOMEWORK: improvement of elaborated solutions and development of prototyping strategies

DAY 6 (14.XII)

• RETROSPECTIVE: How (not) to ideate?

• Why do we prototype and how to do it? Introduction to co-creation-based solution development and implementation

• PRACTICE: SWOT analysis and Edward de Bono’s 6 Thinking Hats

• GROUPWORKING: evaluation of prototypes

• RETROSPECTIVE: recapitulation of the process (Q&A)

Efekty uczenia się:

At the end of the 6-day workshop, students will:

• Understand the value and implementation process of human centred design and “double diamond” approach as general framework for social innovation.

• Understand specificity and nature of design problems and be able to differentiate between easy (tame), complex and wicked ones.

• Gain experience during workshop sessions in managing consecutive stages of design processes.

• Know how to implement basic design thinking methods and techniques.

Metody i kryteria oceniania:

Students will be evaluated as follows:

1. Presence at the seminars

2. Participation in discussions and workshops

3. Engagement in homework activities

4. Individual documentation of process and elaborated ideas
