Następnie przejdziemy do problemu analizy pojęcia wiedzy.

The tutorials are devoted to the issues dominating the philosophy of biology. The status of biology as science is considered, and the biological definitions of life and the main theses of the theory of evolution are discussed. Methodological aspects of the Darwinian revolution together with the concepts of gene, species, fitness, and adaptation are analyzed. The controversies over the units and levels of natural selection are investigated, and the place of teleological language in biology is explored. In the course of the tutorials students familiarize themselves with the biological image of human nature and the explanations of the evolution of altruism. The results of the analysis are compared to the philosophical concepts of human nature and social contract. The relations between biology and the problems of normative ethics, metaethics, and religion are scrutinized. Students acquire information about the basic principles of evolutionary psychology and memetics.

The aim of the course is to present the basic problems and methods of philosophy of culture as well as to show possible ways of their application to the analysis of the contemporary cultural phenomena. The starting point is the conviction that culture can be understood only as intertwined with and inseparable from the human being. Culture is the realm of symbolically mediated human actions and creative endeavors realized always within historically determined horizon. As such it can be understood in the light of the three fundamental categories: symbol, image and techne. The course will be centered around and guided by these categories. Thus the analyses of symbolic, imaginary and technological dimensions of human culture will be of our special interest.

The main aim of the course is to present the basic problems of axiology and philosophical anthropology as well as to create a specific anthropological imagination which will lead to a deeper understanding of the different dimensions of human self-realization, self-experiencing and self-understanding. The axiological dimension of human existence will be the object of special concern. We will try to answer the questions about the genesis, character, ontical status and the basic ways of recognition and justification of values always already correlated or at least implied by the variety of human activities. The object of detailed analysis will be the distinction of values into different types such as: ethical, aesthetic, cognitive, social, religious etc. We will also undertake the attempt to answer the question of the possibility of consistent transgression beyond the sphere of values.
