  • the student’s weekly hourly workload is 45 h;
  • 1 ECTS point corresponds to 25-30 hours of student work needed to achieve the assumed learning outcomes;
  • weekly student workload necessary to achieve the assumed learning outcomes allows to obtain 1.5 ECTS;
  • work required to pass the course, which has been assigned 3 ECTS, constitutes 10% of the semester student load.

Short description:

The most important and the most interesting aspects of Special Relativity.

Full description:

The purpose of the lecture is to present the most important problems of Special Relativity in a clear and straightforward way. Except for the usual topics discussed during the standard courses I will also talk about many interesting relativistic effects not mentioned in other lectures or textbooks. I will present several known and unknown ,,paradoxes'' of special relativity as well as unusual and interesting problems of relativistic classical mechanics, electrodynamics and quantum theory.

From Lorentz transformation, throughout the Thomas-Wigner rotations, non-inertial, uniformly accelerated observers, Lienard-Wiechert potentials and superluminal reference frames until the event horizon and black and white holes.
