ECTS credit allocation (and other scores): (not available) Basic information on ECTS credits allocation principles:
  • the annual hourly workload of the student’s work required to achieve the expected learning outcomes for a given stage is 1500-1800h, corresponding to 60 ECTS;
  • the student’s weekly hourly workload is 45 h;
  • 1 ECTS point corresponds to 25-30 hours of student work needed to achieve the assumed learning outcomes;
  • weekly student workload necessary to achieve the assumed learning outcomes allows to obtain 1.5 ECTS;
  • work required to pass the course, which has been assigned 3 ECTS, constitutes 10% of the semester student load.

The lecture covers the general knowledge of the cell components and functions of cell structures, cell cycle and its regulation, stem cells and oncogenesis. The course presents also selected topics on basic embriology and cells of the immune system.

Detailed program:

1. General characterisation of procaryotic and eucaryotic calls.

2. Basic intracellular processes.

3. Cell walls. A cell membrane and biological membranes.

4. Cellular membranes functions. Membrane transport.

5. Cytoplasm organisation and cytoplasmic streaming. Cell organelles.

6. Structure and functions of the cytoskeleton – microtubules, intermediate filaments, microfilaments (actin filaments).

7. The nucleus: nucleoar envelope, nucleoplasm, nucleolus, nuclear-cytoplasmic relations, nuclear transport via nuclear pore complexes.

8. A genetic material – structure of eukaryotic chromosomes and bacterial genophore.

9. The cell cycle. Prokaryotic cell division.

10. A cell ageing and apopptosis.

11. Mitosis and meiosis. Chromosomal aberrations.

12. Mitochondria and chloroplasts (plastids) – their semi-autnomous character. A cytoplasmic inheritance.

13. Endocytosis (pino- and phagocytosis). Lysosomes – their biognesis and function during endocytosis.

14. Proteins secretion: protein biosynthesis,, cotranslation and post-translation and intracellular protein transport. Post-translational protein processing. Organelles of secretory pathway.

15. Cell membrane structure – membrane receptors, intercellular signaling.
