Short description: |
Cell Biology is the branch of biology that deals with the examination of cells, which are basic functional units of living organisms, able to independently carry out all life processes. Unlike whole cells, none of the individual components is not able to live independently. Knowledge of the structure and functioning of cells is fundamental in the biological sciences. In particular, this area includes issues related to the construction of a cell, its function, physiology, life cycle, divisions, and death. Subject matter is designed for students of the Faculty of Physics. |
Full description: |
The lecture is to introduce students to the overall knowledge of the biology of the cell. The program includes topics on: 1. Fundamental concepts in cell biology 2. Molecular composition of cells 3. Diversity and structure (similarities and differences between prokaryotes and eukaryotes) 4. Construction and functions of intracellular structures 5. Basic intracellular processes 6. Maintaining of a stable composition of the internal environment, uptake and removal of substances 7. Division and cell growth (cell cycle) 8. Aging and cell death 9. The impact of exogenous factors on cell homeostasis and carcinogenesis 10 Embryonic and Stem Cells |
