Requirements:

Visual Optics 1100-1BO20
Visual Optics Laboratory 1100-1BO29

Prerequisites (description):

Mode:

Classroom

Short description:

Laboratory classes for 2nd year ESOO students. Practical teaching of optometric examination, including diagnosis of eye refraction and accommodation defects and determination of corrective lens parameters. A scheme of examination in accordance with the standard developed by the Polish Society of Optometry and Optics has been adopted.

Full description:

1. Optometric examination sheet

2. History, general observation of the patient, selection of examination method

3. Distance visual acuity test

4. Determination of dominant eye

5. Observation of eye movements

6. Additional tests to the initial examination (visual field, Amsler test, near-accommodation point)

7. Subjective refraction (static retinoscopy, keratometry, refractometry)

8. Subjective refraction using the Donders method (determination of spherical equivalent, detection and correction of astigmatism, use of crossed cylinder to clarify axis and power of correcting cylinder)

9. Binocular subjective refraction (balancing the stimulus to accommodate using Cowen tets, prismatic doubling, obscuration and other polarised tests; binocular subjective refraction endpoint)

10. Measurement of accommodation amplitude monocularly and binocularly

11. Accommodative testing cont'd: determination of close-up allowance, determination of accommodative response (crossed cylinder for nearsightedness, dynamic scotoscopy) determination of accommodative efficiency (monocular flipper, Hart tables)

Assessment methods and assessment criteria:

Failure to pass Optometry Clinics I will result in the Dean's Office de-registering students who have registered for Optometry Clinics II
