Short description:

Improving skills in performing selected optometric examination procedures: measurement of visual acuity and refraction of the eye, measurement of the amplitude and efficiency of accommodation, diagnosis and optical correction of binocular vision disorders, optometric examination for special purposes (screening, periodic, prior to contact lens selection).

Full description:

The practice aims at mastering the ability to perform selected optometric examination procedures, including measurement of visual acuity and refraction of the eye, measurement of the amplitude and efficiency of accommodation, diagnosis and optical correction of binocular vision disorders, optometric examination for special purposes (screening, periodic, prior to contact lens selection).

The training is supervised by a certified practising optometrist.

The first part of the practice, amounting to 40 hours, takes place at the Academic Optometrist Training Centre of the Faculty of Physics, University of Warsaw. The second part takes place in functioning optometric practices, ophthalmic clinics, opticians' salons, etc., upon approval of the practice coordinator and signing of a tripartite agreement containing the practice plan. The coordinator pays attention to whether the equipment of the workplace and the qualifications of the practice supervisor enable the realisation of the learning outcomes.

During the practice period, examinations are recorded, according to ECOO guidelines, and confirmed in writing by the practice supervisor.

A list of patients and a concise report are required to pass the course. It is also possible to pass the practice on the basis of previous work experience. In this case, the coordinator evaluates the documents submitted and makes a decision on this basis.
