Full description:

Course content: Rational foundations of molecular medicine: genetic predisposition and the influence of environmental factors on the initiation and course of diseases, differences between people to contracting diseases in an established environment, and differences in the effectiveness of treatment with the use of the same drugs resulting from genetic differences - "Single Nucleotide Polymorphism" (SNP). The remainder of the basics of the biology of cell division and the basics of apoptosis and necrosis of cells. A reminder of the mechanisms of selected signaling and metabolic pathways, in particular related to the functioning of cell receptors as well as protein kinases and phosphatases. Fundamentals of the biology of the immune system. A selected overview of well-documented family diseases. A selected overview of well-documented environmental diseases: toxins including cigarette smoke, drugs, herbicides, heavy metals, others. Cellular and molecular bases of selected diseases and selected, popular antibiotics and inhibitors/activators of signaling pathways as well as RNA antisense: simple genetic diseases, incl. associated with damage to single genes, as well as mitochondrial, cancer, allergic, immunological, viral diseases, incl. influenza, including its various varieties, and Aids, bacterial, fungal, parasitic, incl. malaria., diseases associated with the defective synthesis of prion proteins, and others. Practical possibilities of modern medicine for individualized treatment and minimization of side effects. New technologies for functional genomics, incl. basics of pharmacogenomics.
