ECTS credit allocation (and other scores): 2.00 Basic information on ECTS credits allocation principles:
  • the annual hourly workload of the student’s work required to achieve the expected learning outcomes for a given stage is 1500-1800h, corresponding to 60 ECTS;
  • the student’s weekly hourly workload is 45 h;
  • 1 ECTS point corresponds to 25-30 hours of student work needed to achieve the assumed learning outcomes;
  • weekly student workload necessary to achieve the assumed learning outcomes allows to obtain 1.5 ECTS;
  • work required to pass the course, which has been assigned 3 ECTS, constitutes 10% of the semester student load.

Language: Polish
Prerequisites (description):

As part of this multi- and cross-disciplinary seminar, which is in fact a continuation of the seminar of the same name from the previous semester, students (and graduate students) acquire, of course, in interaction with other participants of the seminar, knowledge and skills specific to econophysics. A sufficient starting point (for participation in the seminar) are those skills and general knowledge they acquired participant of the seminar in the current course of study. Further acquisition of new specialist skills has a place among at this particular seminar.

Mode:

Blended learning
Self-reading

Short description:

The seminar is interdisciplinary, omnidirectional and unobscured depicting how the various academic centers and research methods used in physics or related are used in areas such as economics and sociology. The seminar is mandatory for students of physics methods in economics (econophysics).

Full description:

The seminar is interdisciplinary and unobscured showing how the various academic centers and research methods used in physics or related are used in areas such as economics and sociology. Participants of the seminar are not only young scientists and doctoral students as well as experienced researchers. The seminar is held in stationary mode but many auxiliary and inspirational materials, literature references and links can be found at Section of Polish Physical Society `Physics in Economics and Social Sciences' (FENS) at the address given in the following paragraph.

Topics of the seminar are well reflected by the way they were presented on the following symposia of the Polish scientific econo- and sociophysical community (see internet address:

http://science24.com/event/fens2015/

and there relevant links).

Bibliography:

1) Publications recommended by speakers.

2) Presentations contained (by the mentioned in the previous section) web-page http://science24.com/event/fens2015/

with appropriate links.

Learning outcomes:

After completion of the course the student obtained the following results in the field of education.

KNOWLEDGE

1) obtains knowledge to understand and discuss concepts, methodologies, theories, models, methods and techniques, primarily interdisciplinary, applied in physics as well as in economics and sociology to examine first of all complex systems.

2) obtains knowledge to analyze a variety of empirical data which is manipulated in these areas.

SKILLS

It is in this context acquire the skill of reading scientific publications allows, above all, to:

1) the ability to quickly extracting from them the essence of things

2) ability gradual deepening (as needed) understanding of the content

3) the ability to optimize the use of resources recommended in publications

4) the ability of public and lobbying transfer contained in these resources topics and solutions to problems submitted

5) the ability to participate in scientific discussions in particular skills as simple as possible and clear the presentation (formulation), their own and others' thoughts

6) the ability to see the economic and sociologic phenomena and processes

7) the ability to self-putting and solving scientific problems

8) in-depth understanding of the nature of work in interdisciplinary teams.

ATTITUDES

1) Appreciates the importance of a thorough and comprehensive understanding of the problem in drawing conclusions and making decisions.

It all corresponds to the following effects in the field of education (see information about studying at http://www.fuw.edu.pl/ ):

1) knowledge: KW01- KW06,

2) skills: KU05 - KU09,

3) competences: K04, K05.

EXPECTED STUDENT WORKLOAD:

- participation in classes: 30h - 1.0 ECTS,

- exam preparation: 25h - 1.0 ECTS.

Assessment methods and assessment criteria:

The basis for passing is attendance and oral presentation. The subject of the paper is the publication recommended by the supervisors of the seminar. In addition, when assessing taken into account active participant in the seminar. Finally, before issuing the assessment classifying seminar seminar tutors settle the extent to which participant of the seminar has acquired the knowledge, skills and competences specified above (Sec. 'Efekty kształcenia`).
