ECTS credit allocation (and other scores): 2.00 Basic information on ECTS credits allocation principles:
  • the annual hourly workload of the student’s work required to achieve the expected learning outcomes for a given stage is 1500-1800h, corresponding to 60 ECTS;
  • the student’s weekly hourly workload is 45 h;
  • 1 ECTS point corresponds to 25-30 hours of student work needed to achieve the assumed learning outcomes;
  • weekly student workload necessary to achieve the assumed learning outcomes allows to obtain 1.5 ECTS;
  • work required to pass the course, which has been assigned 3 ECTS, constitutes 10% of the semester student load.

Short description:

Friday seminar on solid state physics

Full description:

Seminar started about 75 years ago.

It is a seminar not only for Warsaw University, but also for all solid state community in Warsaw. Physicists from:

- Institute of Physics PAS,

- High Pressure Institute PAS,

-Łukasiewicz research Network - Institute of Microelectronics and Photonics,

- Physics Faculty, Technical University of Warsaw,

participate in the seminar.

Subjects:

1. Semiconductor physics experimental and theoretical,

2. Some problems of magnetism,

3. Semiconductors nanostructures and other solid state materials,

4. Some aspects out of solid state, but important for solid state physicists.

Speakers:

Mainly University of Warsaw, Institute of Physics PAS

Accomplished work, and work during investigation (in English, exceptionally, in Polish)

Invited speakers from abroad in the field close to participation of seminar interest (in English)

PhD thesis - finished .

Time: 60 min + 15 min discussion

Numbers of participations (from 60 to 120) depending subject.

Assessment methods and assessment criteria:

To receive this credit you must:

1) Take part in the seminars, which is confirmed by the attendance list (signed by hand).

It is obligatory to be present in person.

2) The criterion for failing the assessment is an absence of more than 3 times.

3) Absence from the "Friday" seminar may not have negative consequences if, upon earlier agreement with me, the attendance at the "Tuesday" seminar (Course ID: 1101-5sFPprz) is counted instead, provided that the Tuesday seminar is not a subject of credit for a given person in this semester.

4) The basis for the final grade is the preparation of an "essay" (about 250 words) entitled:

"The most interesting seminar of the current semester" describing what made the greatest impression on the author.

Please include your name in the file name and in the text itself (which I know is not obvious to everyone).

Submitting your essay after the end of the examination session may result in a lower grade.

In case of any doubts or individual problems, please contact one of the one of the seminar coordinators (roman.stepniewski@fuw.edu.pl, piotr.kossacki@fuw.edu.pl).
