Type of course: | obligatory courses |
Requirements: | Organic Chemistry I 1200-1CHMCHO12 |
Prerequisites (description): | Student should have fundamental knowledge of organic chemistry, corresponding to introductory/general academic course (structure, properties, methods of synthesis and reactivity of organic compounds bearing selected functional groups). |
Mode: | Classroom |
Short description: |
Lecture presents practcal aspects of organic synthesis concerning analysis of the reaction mixtures, isolation and separation of products, and, in particular, determination of their structures with spectroscopic (NMR, IR, UV/Vis, MS and Xray) and chromatographic (TLC, GC and HPLC) methods. At seminar we practically use knowledge from the lecture to solve problems concerning assignment of structure of organic compounds, based on their spectroscopic and chromatographic data. |
Full description: |
Isolation and separation of organic compounds: - extraction with chemical reaction, - steam distillation, - thin layer and column chromatography. Identification of organic compounds: - elemental analysis, - mass spectrometry (MS), - infrared spectroscopy (IR), - ultraviolet and visible spectroscopy (UV/Vis), - nuclear magnetic resonance (1 H NMR, 13C NMR, correlations, Nuclear Overhauser Effect). Chromatographic methods: - gas chromatography (GC), - high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). |

Learning outcomes: |
(in Polish) Po ukończeniu przedmiotu student: - zna sposób postępowania z mieszaninami poreakcyjnymi, sposobami ich analizy, oraz wydzielania i rozdziału produktów, - zna techniki spektroskopowe stosowane do identyfikacji związków organicznych; - potrafi wykorzystać odpowiednie techniki spektroskopowe do stwierdzenia obecności grup funkcyjnych w badanym związku; - umie zidentyfikować proste związki organiczne na podstawie widm magnetycznego rezonansu jądrowego 1H i 13C; - potrafi przeprowadzić identyfikację wybranych związków organicznych na podstawie danych chemicznych, chromatograficznych i spektroskopowych. |
