Main fields of studies for MISMaP: | chemistry |
Type of course: | obligatory courses |
Prerequisites (description): | The aim of the lecture is to present general information concerning the chemistry of the block f elements and their periodical chemical changes depending on their location in the periodical table of the elements. The aim of the exercises is deeper understanding of the issues raised during the lecture. |
Mode: | Classroom |
Short description: |
The lecture will present physico-chemical properties of Ln and An, including spectroscopic and magnetic properties of their ions. We will also discuss the most important inorganic and organic compounds of this elements. Separation of individual elements and equilibriums observed in aqueous solutions containing Ln and An ions will be presented. |
Full description: |
The lecture will cover following issues: 1. Location of Ln and An in periodical table of the elements. 2. Electronic configurations of Ln and An in context of the spectroscopic properties of their ions. 3. Physical and magnetic properties of the Ln and An. 4. Contraction of lanthanides and actinides. 5. Synthesis of N, O, S and C compounds. 6. Usage of the most important lanthanides and actinides. 7. Equilibriums in aqueous solutions. 8. Separation of Ln and An. 9. Ln and An in nuclear power industry. |

Learning outcomes: |
(in Polish) Student po zapoznaniu się z tematyka wykładu potrafi przedstawić ogólne właściwości lantanowców i aktynowców. Na podstawie konfiguracji elektronowej przewiduje możliwe przejścia elektronowe w wybranych jonach Ln i An. |
Assessment methods and assessment criteria: |
The final grade is calculated as weighted arithmetic mean of the exams: 1. at the end of the exercises (test: 70% + homeworks: 30%) (50%) and 2.at the end of the lecture (50%). 2 unexcused absences are allowed (total 4). 50-60%: 3 61%-70: 3,5 71%-80%: 4 81%-90%: 4,5 91%-100%: 5 |
Practical placement: |
(in Polish) Nie dotyczy. |
