Main fields of studies for MISMaP:

chemistry

Type of course:

obligatory courses

Short description:

Lecture concerns the basic theoretical and experimental issues in electrochemistry. Problems related to reduction and oxidation of electroactive ions and molecules will be presented. Electrochemical behavior useful in analytical chemistry will be exposed.

Full description:

Within the lecture the rules of correct measurements in electrochemistry, types of working and reference electrodes, ways of changing potential and related to it consequences and electrochemical measurements under conditions of deficiency of supporting electrolyte and limited space of diffusion will be discussed. An accent will be given to modern electrochemical techniques, types of electrode reactions and electrochemical detection of substances that are electroinactive. The equations describing faradaic and capacitive current flowing under various conditions at electrodes will be presented and compared. Particular attention will be paid to the ways of performing electrochemical measurements with good repeatability and reproducibility. Seminal publications in electrochemistry and the contribution of Polish electrochemists to development of electrochemistry will be also discussed.

Bibliography:

1. Electrochemical Methods, A. Bard, L. Faulkner, Wiley

2. Lecture materials

Learning outcomes:

To become familiar with fundamental electrochemical problem in a laboratory. To get the ability of selecting the appropriate electrochemical technique for solving a given problem.

Assessment methods and assessment criteria:

The grades will be given on the basis of a written exam.

Practical placement:

No student training is planned.
