ECTS credit allocation (and other scores): 8.00 Basic information on ECTS credits allocation principles:
  • the annual hourly workload of the student’s work required to achieve the expected learning outcomes for a given stage is 1500-1800h, corresponding to 60 ECTS;
  • the student’s weekly hourly workload is 45 h;
  • 1 ECTS point corresponds to 25-30 hours of student work needed to achieve the assumed learning outcomes;
  • weekly student workload necessary to achieve the assumed learning outcomes allows to obtain 1.5 ECTS;
  • work required to pass the course, which has been assigned 3 ECTS, constitutes 10% of the semester student load.

Course (project) description:

I. Theoretical part covers: Theoretical background for suitable experimental technique. Physicochemical characteristic of biologically active compounds used as solute and solvent in studied system. The general information about surfactants – classification, characteristic futures, aggregation ability, CMC (critical micelle concentration) detection methods, types of aggregates. Solvents classification: polar, non-polar. Microemulsions, emulsions, physicochemical characteristics, Winsor classes of microemulsions.

II. Experimental part consists of: getting skills in suitable experimental technique (UV-vis, calorimetry, DLS, etc), operating, preparation of surfactant and solute solutions in chosen solvents, CMC detection methods for studied system. Collection experimental results, presentation on graphs and tables, discussion and the conclusion formulation.

Skills: Theoretical and practical learning of experimental techniques (UV-vis, calorimetry, DLS, etc.) used in investigations on chosen system consisting of: biologically active compounds, solvent, surfactant and water.
