  • the annual hourly workload of the student’s work required to achieve the expected learning outcomes for a given stage is 1500-1800h, corresponding to 60 ECTS;

  • 1 ECTS point corresponds to 25-30 hours of student work needed to achieve the assumed learning outcomes;
  • weekly student workload necessary to achieve the assumed learning outcomes allows to obtain 1.5 ECTS;

Short description:

The participant of the study will gain advanced knowledge about the problems of collecting and preparing samples for analysis using chromatographic methods, trace amounts of organic compounds in environmental matrices: water, sewage, air, gases, soil, and others.

Full description:

Sampling and preparation of organic pollutants for determination by chromatographic methods: (I) Air: sampling methods without separating analytes from the matrix, sampling with the use of adsorption, freezing, analytes release methods, etc. (II) Water: sampling, liquid-liquid extraction, liquid-solid extraction (SPE and SPME), liquid-gas extraction. (III) Soil: sampling and preparation, Soxhlet extraction, purification and concentration of extracts.

The knowledge gained during the lecture will be supplemented during two laboratory classes:

1. Determination of the index of mineral oil in water,

2. Analysis of volatile air pollutants by extraction method.

Learning outcomes:

After completing the course, the participant of the study will understand the advanced problems of environmental sampling and modern methods of sample preparation for the analysis of trace organic pollutants using chromatographic techniques.

Discussion during the lecture, processing of data obtained during work in the laboratory, final exam.
