Short description: |
The dynamics of groundwater is a fundamental branch of science for hydrogeologists and experts in the field of environmental protection. Mathematical and physical method of description of groundwater flow and mass transport (pollution) through the ground medium are an inalienable tool of qualitative interpretation and quantitative calculations supporting all decisions and planning for the economy and the protection of groundwater resources. The subject includes presentation of the groundwater flow and mass transport equations from the conservation of mass, indication of the extent of their applicability, presentations on examples some methods for solving these equations and methods of their use in practice. |

Learning outcomes: |
After completing the classes a student: - describes the aquifer system elements and relationships between them - determines the relation of groundwater – surface water - calculates the groundwater flow according to the linear schemes of filtration field - solves the general flow equation for different types of the boundary surface, taking account of input – output segment - determinates alternative water permeability characteristics of heterogeneous systems - calculates variable density flows in uniaxial filtration conditions; - solves the problems related to the inflow to the drainage installations - explains the differences between analytical solutions of the general flow equation and their numerical approximation. |
