Short description: |
The dynamics of groundwater is a fundamental branch of science for hydrogeologists and experts in the field of environmental protection. Mathematical and physical method of description of groundwater flow and mass transport (pollution) through the ground medium are an inalienable tool of qualitative interpretation and quantitative calculations supporting all decisions and planning for the economy and the protection of groundwater resources. The subject includes presentation of the groundwater flow and mass transport equations from the conservation of mass, indication of the extent of their applicability, presentations on examples some methods for solving these equations and methods of their use in practice. |

Learning outcomes: |
After completing the lecture a student: - defines the elements of the aquifer system and describes the relationships between them - explains the physical meaning of the hydrogeological parameters - describes the structure of the filtration flow and interprets the flow net - explains the differences between the types of fluid filtration in the rock; indicates the conditions under which different types of filtration can occurred - explains the particular segments of the general flow equation and their physical meaning - identifies the boundary surface of the aquifer system and determines the relations of the delimitated system and the surroundings - explains the meaning of boundary and initial conditions in the models of filtration field - calculate the groundwater flow, according to the basic schemes - distinguishes the stationary and non-stationary flows - describes basic schemes of inflow to the drainage installations - explains the problems related to flows of fluids with different densities - describe the main components of the mass transport process in groundwater - explains the physical meaning of the segments of equation of advection-dispersion gives the conditions for its solution. |
