ECTS credit allocation (and other scores):	4.00 Basic information on ECTS credits allocation principles: the annual hourly workload of the student’s work required to achieve the expected learning outcomes for a given stage is 1500-1800h, corresponding to 60 ECTS; the student’s weekly hourly workload is 45 h; 1 ECTS point corresponds to 25-30 hours of student work needed to achieve the assumed learning outcomes; weekly student workload necessary to achieve the assumed learning outcomes allows to obtain 1.5 ECTS; work required to pass the course, which has been assigned 3 ECTS, constitutes 10% of the semester student load.

Short description:	Term 1 The course teaches identifying most common rocks and rock-forming minerals by a macroscopic method. Classes take the form of individual and group work with sets of specimens. In the second part of the course, students learn interpreting geological maps and constructing geological cross-sections.
Full description:	Classes consist of two topics. 1. Macroscopic identification of minerals and rocks: diagnostic features of minerals and recognition of selected minerals; description of the rocks, their textures and composition; classification and identification of igneous, sedimentary and metamorphic rocks; regional varieties of different rock types and their occurrences in Poland. 2. Basics of interpretation of geological maps: principles of cartographic methods of the geological structure presentation (geological maps, cross-sections, lithological logs); main types of tectonic structures: homocline, folds, faults, unconformities (disconformity, discordance, nonconformity, paraconformity); identification of tectonic structures on geological maps; principles of the cross-section constructing.
