Type of course:

obligatory courses

Prerequisites (description):

Knowledge of the drilling, geochemistry, petrology.

Short description:

Lectures "Geological and geophysical drilling service" will complement and significantly extend the problems of the items "Drilling with elements of mining" and "Introduction to Geophysics", focused on issues of application. The lecture is divisible into two parts.

The first part is about the tasks and work on a rig geologist. It discusses the responsibilities of a geologist at the rig, including monitoring and supervision work drillers, description of the samples (cuttings and core drilling), the execution of the current geological profile. In addition, there are also discussed geological authorizations to work on drilling rigs.

In the second part of the lecture are discussed procedures for the logging and the interpretive issues. Particular emphasis is placed on quantitative interpretation (lithology and petrophysical properties of rocks). Geophysical surveys are currently one of the most important methods in prospecting of deposits.

Full description:

1. Purpose and scope of the drilling work proceeds

Learning outcomes:

After completing the course the student:

– knows the responsibilities of a geologist on rig

– is able to perform description cuttings samples and drill cores

– is able to perform geological profile

– is able to analyze the variability of logging for geological interpretation.

Assessment methods and assessment criteria:

Final written tests on practice and lecture. The prerequisite is to obtain two positive marks of practice and lecture. The final mark is the arithmetic mean of two positive marks from practice and lecture. On the exercise allowed the student's absence on two classes.
