Short description: |
Hydrogeology – place in the system of basic and applied sciences. Origin of groundwater and forms of its occurrence in relation to geology. Hydrogeological properties of rocks. Systematic of groundwater. Mapping hydrogeological regime. The basic laws of groundwater flow (Darcy’s law, permeability coefficient and the method of its determination, intrinsic permeability coefficient). Springs and their characteristic: water intake, exploitation and waters use. Water inflow to the wells (Dupuit’s law). Test pumping in a steady and unsteady conditions. The importance of the springs regime in identifying the regional hydrogeological conditions. The chemical composition and physical properties of groundwater, threats and quality conservation problems. The mineral and the therapeutic water. Standards for drinking water. Elements of hydrogeological and environmental change and protection cartography. Groundwater in the water-management system. |

The classes are concentrated on: - preparation of the granulometric analysis and results interpretation - calculating the permeability coefficient by empirical formulas - determination of hydrogeological parameters of rocks in the King’s pipes - determination of permeability coefficient using the UPK-99 permeameter - determination of permeability coefficient using the ICB of Eijkelkamp permeameter - determination of the Reynold’s number, identification of laminar and turbulent flow - analysis of physicochemical properties of water - interpretation of hydrogeological cross-section - interpretation of hydroizohypse map, - interpretation of hydroisobath map - interpretation and graphical projection of the physicochemical analysis of water - elements of the well construction - calculation of permeability coefficient on the basis of steady flow research - calculation of hydrogeological parameters of aquifer on the basis of unsteady flow research - familiarization with types of water intake on the example of water intake of induced infiltration called “Gruba Kaśka” in Warsaw. |

Learning outcomes: |
After completing the classes a student: - distinguishes and calculates hydrogeological parameters of aquifer by different methods (laboratory and field methods) - recognizes and identifies the laminar and turbulent flow - interprets map of hydroizohypses and hydroisobathes - implements appropriate numerical schemes for graphical interpretation of hydrogeological phenomena, - characterizes physicochemical properties of groundwater - interprets in graphical form and classifies groundwater chemistry; evaluates the quality of hydrochemical data - specifies technical parameters of the well, depending on the hydrogeological situation - identifies and recognizes the problems associated with the exploitation of groundwater in the water intakes. |
Assessment methods and assessment criteria: |
To finally complete the exercise can begin after correctly (credited by the teacher) completion of all tasks. Final assessment of the exercises based on the written colloquium according to criteria established in the first class. There are two colloquium dates (including: the first and retake colloquium). Attendance is obligatory. Three excused absences are allowed. Absence from class requires the performance of the task carried out in class. Laboratory classes should be done in another group. |
