ECTS credit allocation (and other scores): (not available) Basic information on ECTS credits allocation principles:
  • the annual hourly workload of the student’s work required to achieve the expected learning outcomes for a given stage is 1500-1800h, corresponding to 60 ECTS;
  • the student’s weekly hourly workload is 45 h;
  • 1 ECTS point corresponds to 25-30 hours of student work needed to achieve the assumed learning outcomes;
  • weekly student workload necessary to achieve the assumed learning outcomes allows to obtain 1.5 ECTS;
  • work required to pass the course, which has been assigned 3 ECTS, constitutes 10% of the semester student load.

Prerequisites (description):

(in Polish) Przed rozpoczęciem nauki przedmiotu student powinien znać podstawy stratygrafii czwartorzędu, genezę i cechy osadów czwartorzędowych różnych środowisk, podstawy kartowania geologicznego.

Short description:

The subject presents the most common investigation methods used in palaeoclimatology. The relationship between climate changes and geological processes are explained. The reconctruction of climate and environments of interglacials based on multiple analyses of lake sediments is discribed.

Full description:

The lecture is devoted to palaeoclimate investigations. The Quaternary climatic changes and their geomorphological and geological record are studied. The unexpected sources of palaeoclimatic data from both pre-instrumental and instrumental periods are presented (i.e. flamands painting, old diaries, chronicles, songs and legends). The methods of field works (sampling, outcrop analyses, hand drilling) are described in detail. The important laboratory methods are also presented, tought as base for master degree realization (i.e. petrographic analyses of gravels, quarz grains micromorphology examinations). It teaches also how to recognise results of climate changes in deposits with a use of geophisical methods and isotopic data analyses.
