Full description: |
LECTURE: Fossil record and types of preservation of fossils. Scope of paleontology. Scientific divisions of animals, scientific names of species, genera and of higher systematical categories. Geological time scale. Paleoecology. Paleontology of sponges, coelenterates, brachiopods, mollusks, annelids, arthropods, echinoderms and of graptolites. Main events of the history of invertebrates: Prokaryotes, Eukaryotes, Fauna of Ediacara, Cambrian explosion, extinctions and radiations, Faunas of Sepkoski. Fossils as biostratigraphic indicators and biostratigraphy. Fossils as indicators of ancient environments. Invertebrates as geological factor. Biogenic rocks . Bioherms as reservoirs of oil and gas. Invertebrates and the carbon cycle. |
