Prerequisites (description): | The student should have basic knowledge related to: - sub-division of rocks with regard to their origin and composition, - soil science and engineering geology. Knowledge on these subjects can be acquired during following courses: - Physical Geology, - Fundamentals of Engineering Geology, - Soil Science, - Fundamentals of Soil Mechanics. |
Short description: |
The lecture focuses on methods of soils strengthening. They include: stabilization methods of cohesive, loose and organic soils; appropriate selection of methods of soil stabilization; identification of the content and quantities of reinforcing materials; methods improving the properties of subsoil of existing constructions. |
Full description: |
The lecture focuses on methods strengthening soil in different areas of construction works (housing, road, underground, etc.). They include methods of stabilization of cohesive, loose and organic soils, from those used in ancient times, those that are continuously used and tested, to modern methods. Appropriate selection of soil stabilization methods, determination of the content and quantity of reinforcing materials and methods to improve the properties of subsoil of existing constructions will be discussed. |
