ECTS credit allocation (and other scores): (not available) Basic information on ECTS credits allocation principles:
  • the annual hourly workload of the student’s work required to achieve the expected learning outcomes for a given stage is 1500-1800h, corresponding to 60 ECTS;
  • the student’s weekly hourly workload is 45 h;
  • 1 ECTS point corresponds to 25-30 hours of student work needed to achieve the assumed learning outcomes;
  • weekly student workload necessary to achieve the assumed learning outcomes allows to obtain 1.5 ECTS;
  • work required to pass the course, which has been assigned 3 ECTS, constitutes 10% of the semester student load.

obligatory courses

Prerequisites (description):

(in Polish) Studenci powinni mieć wiedzę z zakresu geologii regionalnej Polski oraz praktyczną umiejętność rozpoznawania struktur tektonicznych.

Short description:

Lecture will focus at deformation structures and tectonic evolution of Inner Carpathians: Tatra Mts., Pieniny Klippen Belt, Podhale and Spisz troughs. Main goal of lecture is to show differences between tectonic structures and orogenic processes within these areas. Students become aware in which way lithological and rheological properties of rocks and deformation behavior influenced on geometry of structures. These lecture is preparing students to individual fieldwork in the area of Inner Carpathians.

Full description:

Students will become familiar with historical background of geological investigations in the Inner Carpathians and with tectogenesis of these areas from point of view of famous geologists. They learn geotectonic conditions of formation of Tatra Mts., Pieniny Klippen Belt, Podhale and Spisz. Students become aware in which way lithological and rheological properties of rocks and deformation behavior influenced on geometry of structures Students learn specific of Alpine tectonics, nappe-thrust structures in the Tatra Mts. and gravitational slides in the Pieniny Klippen Belt.

Learning outcomes:

Students have detailed knowledge of tectonic structures of Inner Carpathians. They have individual opinions on the different ideas of tectogenesis of Tatra Mts. and Pieniny Klippen Belt. They can relate the nature of the structures with condition of deformation and geotectonic situation.

Assessment methods and assessment criteria:

Written exam of tectonic evolution and characteristic structures of Tatra Mts., Pieniny Klippen Belt, Podhale and Spisz.

Practical placement: (in Polish)
