Short description: |
Lecture will focus at deformation structures and tectonic evolution of Inner Carpathians: Tatra Mts., Pieniny Klippen Belt, Podhale and Spisz troughs. Main goal of lecture is to show differences between tectonic structures and orogenic processes within these areas. Students become aware in which way lithological and rheological properties of rocks and deformation behavior influenced on geometry of structures. These lecture is preparing students to individual fieldwork in the area of Inner Carpathians. |
Full description: |
Students will become familiar with historical background of geological investigations in the Inner Carpathians and with tectogenesis of these areas from point of view of famous geologists. They learn geotectonic conditions of formation of Tatra Mts., Pieniny Klippen Belt, Podhale and Spisz. Students become aware in which way lithological and rheological properties of rocks and deformation behavior influenced on geometry of structures Students learn specific of Alpine tectonics, nappe-thrust structures in the Tatra Mts. and gravitational slides in the Pieniny Klippen Belt. |

Learning outcomes: |
Students have detailed knowledge of tectonic structures of Inner Carpathians. They have individual opinions on the different ideas of tectogenesis of Tatra Mts. and Pieniny Klippen Belt. They can relate the nature of the structures with condition of deformation and geotectonic situation. |
Assessment methods and assessment criteria: |
Written exam of tectonic evolution and characteristic structures of Tatra Mts., Pieniny Klippen Belt, Podhale and Spisz. |
