Short description:

Drilling, as a branch of technical knowledge, is the entire range of issues related to the implementation of boreholes in the earth's crust for geological and mining research: reservoir, hydrogeological, geological engineering, and technical boreholes for various purposes. The lecture includes a discussion of issues related to the methodology of execution of drilling for geological purpose and exploitation. Presented is the technical characteristics and intended use of different types of drilling rigs and drilling technology for various methods.

Full description:

The course covers the following topics:

1)Purpose and scope and possibilities of drilling techniques;

2) manual drilling;

3) Hammer drilling;

4) The construction of the borehole;

5) Cementing casing;

6) Drilling fluids

7) Characteristics of drilling methods used in the recognition of deep geological structure:

a. Small diameter drillings

b. Normal diameter drillings;

c. Large diameter drillings.

8) Borehole exploitation.

Learning outcomes:

After completing the course the student:

- Knows the scope and possibilities of drilling techniques

- Knows the range of geological and technical assumptions for the project of the borehole

- Can perform geo-technical design of the borehole.

Assessment methods and assessment criteria:

Final written tests on practice and lecture. The prerequisite is to obtain two positive marks of practice and lecture. The final mark is the arithmetic mean of two positive marks from practice and lecture. On the exercise allowed the student's absence on two classes.
