Short description: |
The course includes lectures given by several representatives of the above Departments and practices connected to the lectures, involving a two-day long field part and a lab part located at the Departments' labs. The course introduces to reasons of freshwater degradation and provides basis for planning protection and restoration measures. Students get to know various freshwater and wetland habitats and assess for the degree of their degradation, learn about external and internal reasons for lake eutrophication and how to identify them, as well as about basic biological indicators of eutrophication. They learn how to use biological methods of water protection and restoration both in the field and laboratory. Using provided, specific examples they assess the degree of threat and lake susceptibility to eutrophication and suggest method of water protection and quality improvement. |

Learning outcomes: |
Stosuje podstawowe techniki analityczne wykorzystywane do oceny stanu ekologicznego wód. Potrafi interpretować podstawowe wskaźniki stanu ekologicznego wód. Analizuje przyczyny zagrożeń środowiska wodnego i różnorodności biologicznej oraz potrafi wskazać rodzaj działań zaradczych. Potrafi zaplanować i zastosować odpowiednie metody i techniki badawcze do rozwiązania zadanego problemu z dziedziny ochrony środowiska. Potrafi odpowiednio określić priorytety służące rozwiązaniu problemów w zakresie ochrony środowiska wodnego. |
