  • the annual hourly workload of the student’s work required to achieve the expected learning outcomes for a given stage is 1500-1800h, corresponding to 60 ECTS;
  • the student’s weekly hourly workload is 45 h;
  • 1 ECTS point corresponds to 25-30 hours of student work needed to achieve the assumed learning outcomes;
  • weekly student workload necessary to achieve the assumed learning outcomes allows to obtain 1.5 ECTS;
  • work required to pass the course, which has been assigned 3 ECTS, constitutes 10% of the semester student load.

Short description:

1. Metal occurrence in nature (a) ore types and their origin, (b) biogeochemical cycles. 2. Mechanisms of biological sorption and accumulation. 3. Industrial processes dispersing heavy metals into environment - problems with environmental pollution. 4. Organisms able to metallic species transformation. 5. Bioleaching of metals with microorganisms. 6. Biohydrometallurgical processes in industrial scale (technology, economy). 7. Possibility of heavy metal removal from sewage sludge and production of natural, mineral fertilizer.

Lecture: 1. Metal occurrence in nature (a) ore types and their origin, (b) biogeochemical cycles. 2.Mechanisms of biological sorption and accumulation. 3. Industrial processes dispersing heavy metals into environment - problems with environmental pollution. 4. Organisms able to metallic species transformation. 5. Bioleaching of metals with microorganisms. 6. Assessment methods and assessment criteria:

Assessment is based on the exam, which deals with all matters mentioned during lectures . Single choice test with 1 or 2 open questions (60% of correct answers is needed to pass the exam). 2 absences allowed
