A seminar is a subject conducted by a coordinator in a given discipline, appointed by the leading units of the University of Warsaw in a given discipline in consultation with RND. The classes are obligatory and addressed to all doctoral students (i.e. all years) of a given discipline. The subject involves doctoral students systematically meeting to present and discuss their research. It is also possible to participate in lectures/seminars by outstanding scientists in a given discipline, but working in national or foreign units other than the leading unit (these lectures are organized by coordinators). Within the course: first-year PhD students discuss the concept, research issues, research hypotheses and structure of the work; second- and third-year doctoral students discuss progress in their scientific work, presenting fragments of the dissertation (e.g. research results, conclusions from the literature review) as well as publication, conference and project achievements. Fourth-year PhD students summarize their dissertation (e.g. main research results, solved research problems, verification of research hypotheses, publication and conference progress). The subject serves to integrate all doctoral students, offers the opportunity to discuss the dissertation in a larger group from different perspectives and offers opportunities for cooperation. It enables systematic verification of progress and has a motivating value. Due to the comfort of participants, discussion classes should not consist of more than 20 people in a group. This means that the subject should be related to the number of PhD students in the discipline. The lecture by an outstanding scientist during the seminar should be common to all doctoral students of the discipline, but it is possible for doctoral students from another discipline to take part in it.
