  • 1 ECTS point corresponds to 25-30 hours of student work needed to achieve the assumed learning outcomes;
  • weekly student workload necessary to achieve the assumed learning outcomes allows to obtain 1.5 ECTS;

Short description:

Seminar, 10h, (in the case of a Polish-speaking group, Polish language)

Teaching methods applied:

a) Press review: Regular reviews of articles and reports from various sources.

b) Case analysis: Students will analyze current events using various sources of information.

c) Group discussions: Encouraging discussion and debate on the geographical, social, and political effects of events.

d) Working with maps and geographical sources: Students will use maps and data sources for spatial analysis of events.

Full description:

The seminar will be based on a press review dedicated to current issues from around the world and Poland. Conflicts, elections, humanitarian crises, but also geographical discoveries, important social and natural events. The classes will discuss key events of the last week from a geographical perspective. This will allow students to use the skills acquired during their studies for daily analysis of the contemporary world surrounding us.

In the case of a Polish-speaking group, reaching for Polish-language media is possible.

Learning outcomes:

9) Opis wymagań związanych z uczestnictwem w zajęciach, w tym dopuszczalnej liczby nieobecności podlegających usprawiedliwieniu:

Obecność: Maksymalnie jedna nieobecność jest dopuszczalna. Każda kolejna wymaga usprawiedliwienia.

Aktywny udział w zajęciach: Oczekuje się udziału w dyskusjach i realizacji zadań domowych oraz grupowych.

10) Zasady zaliczania zajęć i przedmiotu (w tym zaliczania poprawkowego):

Przedmiot zalicza obecność na zajęciach, aktywność podczas zajęć, przygotowanie prezentacji (każdy student/ka przedstawi prezentację na wybrany temat związany z bieżącymi wydarzeniami) oraz egzamin ustny kończący konwersatorium.

12) Kryteria oceniania: Obecność na zajęciach (10% oceny), aktywność podczas zajęć (10% oceny), przygotowanie materiałów (prezentacji) do dyskusji podczas zajęć (40% oceny) oraz egzamin ustny (40% oceny).

Description of requirements related to participation in classes, including the

permitted number of explained absences:

Attendance: A maximum of one absence is allowed. Each subsequent absence requires justification.

Active participation in classes: Participation in discussions and completion of homework and group assignments is expected.

Principles for passing the classes and the subject (including resit session):

The course is passed based on attendance, activity during classes, preparation of a presentation (each student will present on a topic related to current events), and an oral exam concluding the seminar.
