Full description:

The subject will focus on practicing skills in constructing scientific and media messages, both verbal and visual. The participants of the workshop will become acquainted with non-standard ways of visually presenting research results using multimedia presentation, they will learn one of the methods of conducting narratives in science and the media (storytelling), they will become acquainted with breathing techniques and intonation and diction exercises in practice, which will allow them to better and more understandable communication in the scientific and media environment. During the classes, relaxation techniques will be presented that help eliminate the negative effects of stress, as well as ways of introducing body language elements into scientific and media presentations that strengthen and authenticate the message. Students will practice speaking skills on camera and will have the opportunity to analyze their scientific and media presentations on a viewing monitor in a television studio. Additionally, during the workshops, the specificity of working in the media will be presented, which determines the method of preparing journalistic materials, with particular emphasis on the pace of work of television and online reporters.

Learning outcomes:

Description of requirements related to participation in classes, including the

permitted number of explained absences: Before starting the workshop, each person taking part in the classes should prepare ideas for two scientific presentations (results of their own research or that of other researchers), which they will use to prepare a training presentation and then a final presentation. Due to the workshop nature of the classes, participants may miss a maximum of 180 minutes of classes, i.e., depending on the schedule, one (180 minutes) or two workshop meetings of 90 minutes each. During classes, students should have charged smartphones in order to download and read source materials as well as create and correct texts during workshops.

Principles for passing the classes and the subject (including resit session): Pass with grade/course credit for grade; Form of passing the course: 15-minute speech in front of the camera, including a presentation prepared for a scientific conference, as well as a separate 3-minute speech on the same topic prepared for the needs of a meeting with audiovisual media.

Methods for the verification of learning outcomes: Public screening of the multimedia presentation prepared by the participant in the WDIB UW television studio using a computer and a viewing monitor, assessed by the person conducting the class according to specific criteria.

Evaluation criteria: The following items will be assessed: narrative idea, structure and visual elements of the presentation message (presentation) - 50%, fluency in verbal communication - 25%, body language of the presenter - 25%. of final grade.
