ECTS credit allocation (and other scores): (not available) Basic information on ECTS credits allocation principles:
  • the annual hourly workload of the student’s work required to achieve the expected learning outcomes for a given stage is 1500-1800h, corresponding to 60 ECTS;
  • the student’s weekly hourly workload is 45 h;
  • 1 ECTS point corresponds to 25-30 hours of student work needed to achieve the assumed learning outcomes;
  • weekly student workload necessary to achieve the assumed learning outcomes allows to obtain 1.5 ECTS;
  • work required to pass the course, which has been assigned 3 ECTS, constitutes 10% of the semester student load.

Main fields of studies for MISMaP:

geography

Type of course:

obligatory courses

Prerequisites (description):

The student should have a basic knowledge of computer and Windows operating systems.

In order to fully understand the issues presented, the student must have knowledge of the basics of satellite remote sensing, acquisition of remote sensing information and should have basic practical skills in the visual interpretation of images.

Mode:

Classroom

Short description:

Teaching of rules of digital image processing, practice and theory.

Full description:

Giving knowledge and practical skills of advance rules of digital image processing of satellite images to students is main goal of this subject.

Classes are conducted like a lecture simultaneously with practical exercises. In the lecture will be presented theoretical information, then the student will do a project.

Scope of topics:

- Primary sources of satellite images

- Digital image formats

- Different types of digital data

- Preprocessing of digital data

- Corrections of digital data

- Unsupervised and supervised classification

- Obtaining information from satellite images

Learning outcomes:

Acquiring of theoretical knowledge about basic rules of digital processing of satellite images.

Assessment methods and assessment criteria:

The grade of the lecture and exercises in the proportion 50:50.

Exercises - two credits (with the possibility of using notes - 1/3 of the exercises grade) and two tests (without the possibility of using notes - 2/3 of the exercises grade). Division of credits and colloquia into preliminary data processing (part 1) and analytical part (part 2). Credits and colloquia on computers.

Lecture - written test (2/3 lecture grade) and project preparation and presentation (1/3 lecture grade). The project starts after the colloquium.

Attendance at classes is obligatory, 2 excused absences are allowed.

Doing homework is not possible, but a substitute form is to read the material during the tutor's consultation.

In the re-sit session it is possible to improve the colloquium from the lecture and the colloquium from parts 1 and 2 from exercises.
