Main fields of studies for MISMaP: | geography |
Type of course: | obligatory courses |
Prerequisites (description): | The scope of the lectures and exercises is an extension of the course "Hydrology and Oceanography", conducted in the first year of undergraduate studies in the field of geography. Participants are to be acquainted with the basic quantitative methods used in hydrology. Various sources of hydrological information and ways of processing and interpretation of available materials are to be discussed. The subject of classes gives a good basis for use and extension of hydrological knowledge at various levels of education. It can also be used in practice. |
Mode: | Blended learning |
Short description: |
The goal of the course is to show the areas of practical application of basic knowledge in the field of hydrology. Assesment methods of water resources, measures of threats and directions of counteraction are to be analyzed. Course participants are to learn how to interpret the results of hydrological forecasts. Potential sources of errors are to be discussed. |
Full description: |
The subject "Applied Hydrology" consists of 2 parts: lectures (15 hours) and exercises (15 hours). The lectures refer to the content of basic hydrology course and concern: - the type and availability of water resources in Poland; - risk assessment related to water scarcity and water surplus (i.e. floods); - hydrological monitoring. In addition, sources of hydrological information (i.e. measurements databases, hydrographic maps) are to be taken into account. Part of the attention is devoted to the forecasts of hydrological phenomena and various methods of their presentation. Potential sources of errors are to be discussed. |

Assessment methods and assessment criteria: |
