ECTS credit allocation (and other scores): (not available) Basic information on ECTS credits allocation principles:
  • the annual hourly workload of the student’s work required to achieve the expected learning outcomes for a given stage is 1500-1800h, corresponding to 60 ECTS;
  • the student’s weekly hourly workload is 45 h;
  • 1 ECTS point corresponds to 25-30 hours of student work needed to achieve the assumed learning outcomes;
  • weekly student workload necessary to achieve the assumed learning outcomes allows to obtain 1.5 ECTS;
  • work required to pass the course, which has been assigned 3 ECTS, constitutes 10% of the semester student load.

Prerequisites (description):

Prerequisites:

familiarity with computers (particularly MS Excel) and GIS.

Short description:

The main objectives of the course are: to acquire knowledge of the fundamental concepts geostatistcs, to become familiar with standard statistical techniques with applications for spatial analysis.

Full description:

The elements of classical statistics - scales of measurements, models of probability distribution, descriptive statistics (software: Excel Analysis ToolPak), presenting data, the basis of statistical testing, parametric and nonparametric tests, analysis of variance, correlation and regression. The introduction to the geostatistical analysis, spatial autocorrelation, spatial interpolation methods, semivariograms and kriging, the analysis of spatial pattern, landscape metrics (software: ArcGIS Geostatistical Analyst and Spatial Analyst, SAGA, FRAGSTAT).

Learning outcomes:

Student:

- knows the mathematical fundamentals (especially based on the theory of probability) of spatial statistics

- can choose the type of statistical test

- understands the difference between correlation and regresion

- can perform a standard graphical visualizations used in statistics

- knows and understands the basic concepts of geostatistics and the potential of their application

- knows the basic method of interpolation (knows their advantages and disadvantages), and can make the interpolation in ArcGIS

- can check the randomness of localisation with the use of ArcGIS Spatial Anlyst

- can calculate and interpret landscape indicators
