Prerequisites (description):

The course of quantitative research methods takes place in a mixed form, combining lecture, seminar and workshops. Classes are conducted in the winter semester. The course aims to familiarize students with the elements of the quantitative research methodology necessary to conduct an independent research for academic purposes.

Short description:

The aim of the course is to provide PhD students with systematized knowledge on quantitative methods in social sciences, with particular emphasis on requirements, limitations and research needs for the needs of political science

Full description:

The specific learning objectives include the following range of knowledge and skills:

• assimilation of basic knowledge related to quantitative research by the participants of the course;

• understanding the basic concepts used in the quantum research universe;

• knowledge of the main methods and techniques of quantitative research;

• knowledge about the possibilities and limitations, advantages and disadvantages of quantitative research;

• to develop the ability to assess the adequacy of the use of different varieties of quantitative research;

• the ability to assess key methodological aspects and formal quantitative research as a project manager, ordering a quantitative study or analyzing empirical data from a quantitative study;

• shaping and developing your own research workshop.

KNOWLEDGE

EK2 - be able to use theoretical knowledge in the field of political science and related disciplines to analyze and interpret phenomena and processes in the area of ​​policy (U03).

EK3 - Can use basic theories and the use of methods and techniques for the diagnosis and prognosis of various phenomena in the policy area (U05).

EK4 - be able to independently acquire knowledge and develop their professional skills, using different sources (native language) and advanced technology (ICT) (U08).

EK5 - Has the ability to present their own ideas, justify them, and to confront the views of other students and various authors (U09).

EK6 - has the ability to collect, hierarchies, information processing and creation of typical works written in Polish and foreign language on specific issues with the use of basic theoretical approaches and different sources (U11).

EK7 - has a need for further replenishment of knowledge and improve and expand skills (K07).

Students assessed on the basis of final papers, the degree of acquiring practical knowledge (empirical research project) is assessed
