Short description: |
The aim of this course is to introduce the main terms of political science research methodology and equip students with basic knowledge and skills in research methods. This course is directly linked and builds ground that will be developed during the subsequent methodological course planned in the curriculum. Each class is composed of a short introduction by the instructor, followed by in-class and out-of-class activities, individual and in teams. Students regularly do certain assignments at home. |

The aim of this course is to introduce the main terms of political science research methodology and equip students with basic knowledge and skills in research methods. This course is directly linked and builds ground that will be developed during the subsequent methodological course planned in the curriculum. The course will consist of the following classes: 1. Kick-off Meeting 2. Political research in context 3. Visualizing Research 4. Foundations of empirical research 5. Asking good questions 6. What happened and why? 7. Choosing research design 8. The logic of qualitative methods 9. The logic of quantitative methods 10. Case study research 11. The comparative method |

Assessment methods and assessment criteria: |
Written examination is the main method of evaluation. Additionally, in order to be qualified for the examination, students must complete all homework and meet attendance requirements specified by the instructor. |
