ECTS credit allocation (and other scores): 2.00 Basic information on ECTS credits allocation principles:
  • the annual hourly workload of the student’s work required to achieve the expected learning outcomes for a given stage is 1500-1800h, corresponding to 60 ECTS;
  • the student’s weekly hourly workload is 45 h;
  • 1 ECTS point corresponds to 25-30 hours of student work needed to achieve the assumed learning outcomes;
  • weekly student workload necessary to achieve the assumed learning outcomes allows to obtain 1.5 ECTS;
  • work required to pass the course, which has been assigned 3 ECTS, constitutes 10% of the semester student load.

The course aims to provide a thorough review and critical assessment of contemporary issues in economic development and the political economy of development, covering the main analytical approaches, empirical evidence, institutions and policy issues in development economics.

Learning outcomes:

On completion of the unit students should be able to:

 Understand and apply the main theories and models of economic development, and link them with a real-world cases;

 Understand the role of institutions in the process of economic development;

 Search, access and examine the main sources of economic and social data relevant to economic development.

Assessment methods and assessment criteria:

1. Final test – 50 % of the final grade (50 points, examination to be held during the final meeting)

2. E-learning platform tasks (kampus platform) – 40% of the final grade (2 x 20 points);

3. Coursework: active participation in seminars – 10% of the final grade (10 points), 1 absence allowed.

In order to complete the module students need to obtain a passing grade (more than 55% of the points) from all components of the assessment.
