  • the annual hourly workload of the student’s work required to achieve the expected learning outcomes for a given stage is 1500-1800h, corresponding to 60 ECTS;
  • the student’s weekly hourly workload is 45 h;
  • 1 ECTS point corresponds to 25-30 hours of student work needed to achieve the assumed learning outcomes;
  • weekly student workload necessary to achieve the assumed learning outcomes allows to obtain 1.5 ECTS;
  • work required to pass the course, which has been assigned 3 ECTS, constitutes 10% of the semester student load.

Prerequisites (description):

Students have basic knowledge on international relations.

Short description:

The purpose of this seminar is to deliver students with knowledge about the international financial market. The main participants of the international financial market will be presented. The money market, the capital market and the currency market will be discussed. Different securities will be analyzed: shares, bonds, derivative contracts. Great Depression and financial crisis of 2008 will be discussed.

Full description:

The purpose of this seminar is to deliver students with knowledge about the international financial market. The nature, origin, features, structure and participants of the international financial market will be presented. The role of international financial market for national economies will be talked over. The money market, the capital market and the currency market will be discussed. Their nature, instruments and the risks of investments in the financial market will be described. Different securities will be analyzed: shares, bonds, derivative contracts (forwards, futures, options and swaps). Great Depression and financial crisis of 2008 will be discussed. The reasons and consequences of the crisis will be discussed. The fiscal and monetary reaction will be analysed.

Learning outcomes:

Students will be able to define the international financial and currency market. They will know his participants, instruments and they will be able to point out the main developments. Students will be able to analyze, explain and interpret events on financial market. Students will be able to select and analyze information about international financial and currency market. The student can promote knowledge about international relations.

Individual project in written form. Lenght: 40000-60000 symbols. Text structure: Introduction, 3-4 chapters, conclusions and bibliography. The introduction must include: research question/ research hypothesis and description of methodology.
